Speech

At Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf, the Speech Language Pathology Department works with students from all grades: preschool (age 3) through high school (up to age 21). We focus on several areas of development that enable our students to be efficient communicators in school, at home, in their communities. These include: speech production/articulation, understanding and expressing language, social language skills, and listening/aural rehabilitation. Our services consist of comprehensive evaluations that measure our students’ speech and language skill levels, as well as therapy in individual and group settings; tailored to the student’s needs. The department values Total Communication, and provides services in the communication mode that best suits each student (spoken language, American Sign Language, and other alternative communication strategies). We work closely with our school audiologist and outside audiologists to ensure each student is utilizing their personal amplification to the best of their ability. Overall, Mill Neck’s speech language pathologists work as collaborative team members with our students, their teachers and their families to help all of our students reach their highest potential.
