    • The benefits of early language acquisition cannot be overstated. Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf prides itself on working very closely with the parents of our wonderful students. At Mill Neck, we realize that parent involvement is invaluable; parents/grandparents and extended family truly are our “partners in education.” The ability for parents to be able to communicate freely with their deaf children is critical to cognitive development. Research has shown that, when parents of Deaf children invest in learning and using American Sign Language with their children, they provide a solid foundation for their children to learn, thrive and succeed academically, socially and emotionally. In line with this goal, we are happy to provide American Sign Language classes free of charge to parents, siblings, extended families, as well as to the community.
