This program is able to assist families before they have received OPWDD eligibility. Through the Service Access Program, MNS staff are able to identify potential OPWDD-eligible individuals and introduce them and their families to the “Front Door” eligibility process. Staff can inform families and providers about OPWDD eligibility through group information sessions with various community agencies (such as Early Intervention agencies, medical and mental health care providers, county Department of Social Services (DSS), and other common referral sources).
Staff can also work one-on-one with families to identify testing needs, initiate contact with OPWDD Front Door, and reach out to the Care Coordination Organization of the family’s choice. Additionally, staff can help families discover support resources prior to becoming eligible, and refer them to those resources as needed.
