Sign Language Camp for Hearing Kids
Learn Sign Language at Mill Neck Manor

Camp-06
Do you want something enjoyable and educational for your child this summer? The annual Sign Language Camp for Hearing Kids, hosted by Mill Neck Foundation, Inc., invites children from ages 8 to 16 to learn a new language and have fun too.

Held on the campus of Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf on Long Island's beautiful north shore, the camp teaches beginner and intermediate sign language classes in two, one-week sessions, Session 1: July 9 -13, 2012 and Session 2: July 16 -20, 2012. During both weeks, campers will be divided by age and experience (Beginners ages 8 – 12, Beginners 13 – 16 and Intermediate 8-16) to ensure that they receive the best experience possible.

Through activities, games and arts and crafts, sign language beginners are taught the sign language alphabet and numbers, as well as signs for animals, foods, colors and much more. Beginners will be able to have basic conversations in sign by the end of the camp, and intermediate campers with prior experience in the language will build on their current skills and focus on conversational sign. Beginners in Session 1 are encouraged to return for the second week for additional fun and educational activities. At the end of each week, a special presentation will be held for friends and family about what the students learned.

Interaction with Deaf children and adults is an important part of the Sign Camp experience. Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf students will join campers during games, storytelling and lunch breaks. Classes are led by Deaf instructors with hearing teacher assistance.

The weeklong camp experience is held from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm daily and costs $375 per week for each child. The camp fee includes lunch, a sign language book, arts and crafts, a work journal, a bag and more. Enrollment for this unique learning experience is limited, so reserve a spot today! The deadline for enrollment is June 22. Contact Kathleen Lagalante at (516) 628-4224 or klagalante@millneck.org for more information and/or to enroll your child in camp.
